How Much Insulation Do You Need?

Hey Itchy,

How do I figure out what kind of insulation I need? I am doing a remodel and I want to make sure I'm insulated properly for my neck of the woods.

Insulation comes in various types and sizes. All are based on the R-value needed. Some areas of the country will require more insulation than others. I have a chart below that will show you, based on where you live, the recommended R-values of insulation to be installed in the different areas of your house.

Weather conditions and fuel costs affect the minimum amount of insulation you should go with. I would also check with your local building inspector before making your decision.
