How To Insulate A Basement

Insulating a basement will help keep your home warm and comfortable and will reduce energy costs. The method of insulating the basement depends on a couple of factors.

If you don't plan on using the basement as a living space then you should only insulate the basement ceiling. On the other hand if it is intended to be a living space then you should insulate the walls. Before you begin to insulate the basement you must first make sure you have any moisture control issues taken care of.

Some of the insulating materials used in the basement include:

* Rigid Foam Board Insulation

* Fiberglass Batts or Blankets

* Spray On Foam Insulation

* Blown In Loose Fill

The chart to the right will help you determine the r-value you will need for your location.
