Good news! Under the previous administration most energy saving tax credits expired in December of 2007. President Obama signed a stimulus bill on February 17, 2009 that made some big changes.

These credits are available for existing homes and are available for the following energy saving improvements at 30% of the purchase price up to $1500. The tax credits are available for purchases in 2009 and 2010:

Water Heaters
Insulation
Doors and Windows
Heating and Air Conditioning Systems
Metal and Asphalt Roofs
Biomass Stoves

Additional tax credits are available for 30 percent of the cost with no upper limit for new and existing homes for the following energy saving devices:

Small Wind Energy Systems
Fuel Cells
Solar Panels
Solar Water Heaters
Geothermal Heat Pumps

You may also be able to get some help from your state also. The NAIMA website has a list of energy saving incentives that each state has to offer:

Don't forget to check with your local utility company. Many have weatherization programs that may be of benefit to you.
