Insulating Ducts

Ducts that are located in unconditioned spaces, such as in a crawl space can account for 10% to 30% of energy loss if not properly sealed and insulated. It is a very common reason for heating loss in a home.

Many homes have ducts that are made of materials that conduct heat/cold such as sheet metal. When the ducts are losing energy your heating and cooling system needs to work harder to make up for that loss.

Ducts need to be checked for air leaks and cracks and sealed. If your ductwork is bare and not insulated you should think about wrapping them with insulation. It is a do it yourself project the average person can do and you should be able to get it done in about one day.
